UV Lighting in Horticulture: A Sustainable Tool for Improving Production Quality and Food Safety

Ultraviolet (UV) is a component of solar radiation that can be divided into three types defined by waveband: UV-A (315–400 nm), UV-B (280–315 and UV-C (<280 nm). UV light influence the physiological responses plants. Wavelength, intensity, exposure have great impact on plant growth quality. Interaction between plants regulated photoreceptors such as Resistance Locus 8 (UVR8) enables acclimation to stress. Although in high doses known damage quality production parameters, some studies show low may stimulate biomass accumulation synthesis healthy compounds mainly absorb UV. induce variations architecture, important ornamental crops, increasing their economic value. Abiotic stress induced increases resistance insects pathogens, reduce postharvest depletion. This review highlights role play growth, quality, photomorphogenesis, abiotic/biotic resistance.
